ABTA -The Association of British Travel Agents - is the regulatory body for British Travel Agents and can be helpful to the let down traveller. ATOL - Air Travel Organiser’s Licence - again look for the special issue number next to the logo, is a protection scheme for all air holidays and flights and is managed by the CAA - Civil Aviation Authority.
All tour operators and travel firms selling air holiday packages and flights in the UK as a principal are required by law to hold this licence. ATOL protects you from losing your money or being stranded abroad in the worst scenario by carrying out checks on the tour operators and travel organisers it licenses, and requiring them to take part in a financial guarantee scheme managed by the ATT (Air Travel Trust) which provides the funds to protect customers should a firm fail. If a tour operator goes out of business, the CAA will make a refund to you, or if you're abroad, we'll arrange for you to finish your holiday and fly home.
